Katherine almost missed that step when it came to her back hitting the wall, as if surprised by it. Yet that hungriness in him was least surprising so she settled easily into the new position. That tight grasp of both his hands only egged her on, causing the woman to try and deepen that kiss further. Damon wasn’t the only one made hungry by this. She’d thought she was aware of her thoughts and emotions before, but it was that kiss which they shared now which was really solidifying just how much she’d missed him. Just how much time she’d really wasted going after someone else. And then like that it was over and he was pulling away, saying they should stop. She worked to catch the breath she hadn’t even realized she’d lost, respecting his choice to pull away by not advancing on him. At least not yet, not until she listened to what he had to say. “That’s not your downfall, Damon. Your humanity has always been your strength. You’ve just either ignored it or let it take over until it consumed you.” It was then she stepped closer, both hands gently resting on his waist but leaving a little distance between them still. “I hurt you, badly, I get that.” The woman breathed as dark eyes locked onto his own. Being real, lacking in sass and sarcasm.. it was difficult, but this was her attempt. “Nothing has to happen tonight, I didn’t come here to screw and then screw you over.” A slight chuckle was made at how she said that, a small smile returning to her lips. “We start off… gentle. Reestablish that connection we had from the moment we met.” She leaned up in order to press a soft kiss to his cheek, nose pressed there for just a moment. “—- we have all the time in the world, Damon. I’m not going anywhere.”
Hearing her speak about his humanity took him back a moment. She sounded almost…genuine. Something he wasn’t use to coming from Katherine. Now that he had thought about it, he had never seen her like this. Burrowing his eyebrows he watched as she stepped closer, Swallowing hard as she placed her hands against his waist. God he hoped this wasn’t some sick joke. He could hardly think straight. Letting his gaze fall as she spoke about hurting him, Damon tried not to let anything show on his face. Sure Elena had been bringing out more emotions out of him then he ever had before, but he was still guarded, still didn’t want people to see him like that. As she continued to speak, Damon moved his glance back up before taking in a deep breath as she kissed his cheek. God he hoped he wouldn’t regret this. Cuse if he did, he didn’t think he could survive it again, not this time. Letting a small smile creep on his lips at her comment, Damon let his face relax slightly before placing his hand against her face as she pulled back, rubbing his thumb against her soft skin of her cheek. Opening his mouth to say something, he stopped. He felt blank, confused, not knowing what to say. It was a first of handful moments for him. “Near death and daughter really did a number on you didn’t it?” he asks almost sarcastically, raising his eyebrows.
She felt his grip tighten as she continued to rage on about Elena. Katherine knew it was something that Damon was weak to, plus getting the rise out of him was quite humorous. Then abruptly, his grip wasn’t as strong as it was moments ago. Katherine stayed quiet watching Damon’s face become full of confusion. “What’s the matter, Damon? Did the psychotic selfish bitch surprise you?” He released, as she slipped away from him. “Screw you? Was that supposed to hurt?” she hissed strutting over to where her drink set, and sipped on it. Damon was obviously getting angry, and the question if he was truly done came into play. Katherine sat in the nearby chair, and listened to Damon. “Like you are done with me. I believe that standing on my head. Like those 145 years of loving me were fake. You never forget your first love, right, Damon?”
Seeing Katherine move at the corner of his eye Damon swallowed hard, not moving a inch as he zoned out looking into the fire. As she spoke though, that question, that damn question..or comment he supposed…god he hated it. He didn’t want to answer, but he was sure it showed on his face. He hated not being able to control his emotions sometimes, damn heightened emotions. He looked almost sad, confused. Swallowing hard Damon finally glanced over at Katherine before forcing his face emotionless. “What’s your point? Come here to tell me Elena and I aren’t meant for each other? You’re a few months too late Katherine. We’ve been told this time after time and I get it. She belongs with someone whose good, whose not me.” he states plainly, clenching his jaw slightly.
Damon had every reason to ignore what she was saying, to have disbelief in her words. Having given him plenty of occasions where she’d manipulated those same feelings she was trying to bring to the surface now. Yet this was different, it was unlike days past and the woman hoped he was looking deep enough - that he would look - to see that. She wouldn’t make the mistake of letting love rule her as she had with his brother, but that didn’t mean Katherine was not going to allow it to gently guide her now. Naturally cool skin once again felt warm under his thumb, much as it had in his human days. It caused her to lean into it just a little, a fraction that would only be noticed by those supernatural senses he had now. And then those kisses happened. The first so soft and sweet and brief that it was almost as if it hadn’t happened and he backed away from it. But she continued to stand her ground, dark eyes on him. That second kiss had her pressing more directly against him without caution, returning it with a passion that hadn’t been ignited within the woman in far too long. One hand moving down to rest against his chest, fingers splayed over that heart which used to race so fast for her and only her.
Feeling the passion Katherine was putting into the kiss pushed him even further. His grip against her soft jaw tightened slightly as his other hand laid against her hip. Feeling her hand against his chest Damon swore he was human again, that this was all just a terrible dream. His heart beat fast, or that he thought as his kiss grew hungrier. Slowly he walked forward, forcing her to back up until she hit a wall. Which one he had no idea but he didn’t care. His grip against her waist tightened as he moved his other hand down against the back of her neck. After a few moments of throwing everything he had into kissing her, he backed away quickly. Burrowing his eyebrows he let his glance fall, licking his lips a moment. “We need to stop.” he notes slightly out of breath before bringing his gaze back up. Something was different in his eyes, something he had hardly let show to anyone besides his brother or even Elena. He looked scared, tired, confused. He felt frozen, like he had no control over what showed or not on his face. “I…it’s not that I….it’s just…” he tries to explain before shifting in his spot with a sigh. “I can’t just jump into things anymore like nothing happened…” he explains before trailing off hoping she understood where he was coming from. “Even though you won’t say it yet out loud….I will.” he starts to say before pausing, taking a deep breath. “Yeah…I think about it still…all the time. How things would have been like, how it would have been if it had been me and you saw how much I loved you. And no matter how damn hard I try….I can’t not feel something…for you…” he explains before giving her a look over, keeping his distance slightly. “Maybe that is my downfall…my emotions…my humanity. And I don’t know how to react to that.” he adds before falling silent, wondering how she would react.
A puzzled expression arose across her features, “So since the town is Mystic Falls, I can’t drop in? Your logic is astonishing.” She stated with the roll of her eyes. “Yeah, I’m pregnant, since when is that anyone’s problem but my own?” The sarcasm oozed off of her statement. “And no I’m not. That half breed piece of shit nearly tried to have me killed with my baby.” She shook her head, she wouldn’t go see Tyler if he was the last hybrid on earth.
"I meant one doesn’t just drop in out of curiosity." he adds interrupting her before burrowing his eyebrows at her sass. Hearing her speak about Tyler intrigues him. Had what happened with him and Caroline threw him over the edge? It would make sense why he was so calm after he returned and was so suddenly over Klaus. Licking his lips Damon stood silent for a moment. "That….would probably explain alot." he notes before clearing his throat. "But what do I care bout Lockwood." he adds with a shrug. "If there’s one thing that’s changed with you…you seem to be much snappier than before and with my guess it isn’t from the pregnancy." he says pointing at the fact of her time with Klaus and his family. "How is dear old Klausy hmm? Seems not good since he drove his baby mama back to Mystic." he continues sarcastically, almost to lighten the mood with a small smirk.
"Aren’t you an over-exaggerator?" She inquired at his sarcastic remark as she swayed her way closer, "A girl can’t be curious? Since when does someone need an ulterior motive to come back?"
Smirking slightly at her question, Damon licked his lips a moment before raising his eyebrows. “Since the town was called Mystic Falls.” he says sarcastically before glancing around the town square they were standing in. “I’d ask if you want a drink but…” he notes before glancing down at her pregnant belly. “A heartbeat…huh..” he adds hearing the baby’s heartbeat, burrowing his eyebrows in confusion but tried to make his voice sound emotionless. “I’m guessing you’re off to the grill to see if Tyler’s still here? Cuse I doubt it after what happened with the triple trouble triangle going on.” he explains before shrugging.
Katherine wasn’t thinking about anyone else that wasn’t already in the room. She couldn’t care less if the younger Salvatore or that doppelganger of hers happened to walk in. Her sole focus was on the man before her and that feeling which moved through her at the touch of his own hand. Remembering all the times before it’d brush across her skin with such emotion behind it. Even now she could feel something unexplainable soak into her like it had so many occasions previous. “You know exactly what, Damon.” Or at least he’d catch on if he was smart enough. And she knew for a fact he was. There’d been a struggle there the night she’d rejected him, one that stuck with her to this day. Tongue briefly swiping across her lips as with a breath, she breathed him in and the slightest of smiles started to form. Not a smirk, but something actually remotely genuine. “Because after all these years, I finally know what I really want. And it’s not to chase the child who gave up on me so easily… but the man who I know never stopped loving me, even for a day.” She spoke while moving still, to the point she was almost pressed up against him. “I’m offering us another chance here, Damon. Don’t be stupid like I was, when you did the same.”
Keeping his eyebrows burrowed as she spoke, Damon hadn’t felt this confused in a long time. God how could he have any sort of feeling for her after everything that had happened? How could he let himself do this? But he couldn’t help it. It’s not like one could so easily erase 100 years of emotions. Looking into her eyes as she continued, Damon felt a lump in his throat, swallowing hard. What the hell? Why was he getting such a rush of emotion? Because Katherine learned how to play genuine better? No, she really did seem different this time, but why. Why now? Rubbing his thumb against her one more time, Damon leaned in and gave her a small kiss against her lips he missed so much. Quickly backing away he swore he felt his heart rush. Why was he doing this to himself? To Stefan? Elena? Trying to wonder what the hell was wrong with him it was like everything just disappeared and he leaned in once again, giving her a real kiss this time, moving his hand to place against her jawline.
In truth they were both very different people then who they’d been all those years ago. Running as much as she had could easily change a person, especially with all that’d occurred the last few years alone. Coming so close to dying more than a few times - it tends to put things in perspective. Or at least you’d think. Something that perspective could take a while to truly kick in. But there were still moments of her past she could look upon and cherish, moments that were a reality she’d only dreamed of and had been so afraid of losing. Perhaps that’s why she pushed one brother away in obsession over the other, because the younger of the pair had been so easy to manipulate once upon a time. She’d always had the upper hand were as with Damon… with him, she’d been so close to losing the facade she’d clung to. “You’re not completely bad, nor fully good, Damon… You’re.. you. A misunderstood man who’s never been fully accepted by those around him, so he has to try to be someone he’s not.” She spoke while stepping in a little more, very little distance left there between them now with that hand staying placed on his face. “Yet we’ve always been able to see each other, the truth of who we were. Which is why I’m surprised you couldn’t see - quite possibly - the biggest lie I’ve ever told.” I never loved you, saying such words back then had been easier than falling to a point she might never had been able to pick herself up from.
Burrowing his eyebrows slightly as she tried to explain who he was, Damon glanced back up at her once again as she inched even closer. This was wrong, so wrong. Stefan could be home any moment, Elena. He couldn’t even think right now. As she continued to speak, Damon looked at her confused as he brought his hand up and placed it against hers lightly that was against his face. Rubbing his thumb gently against the skin of her hand, Damon sighed. “What?” he asks softly even though he had hoped he knew. Why did he hope anything with her? Hadn’t he learned his lesson already? Swallowing hard Damon glanced down at her lips for a moment. God he remembered kissing her, spending days with her. Was it all a lie? He didn’t know which way was up anymore. “Why are you doing this..” he murmurs softly, almost begging her not to be messing with him.
Katherine just rolled her eyes, defenseless human or not this was still Elena. Always needing people to come to her rescue at the end of the day because she rarely ever had what it took to survive on her own. But that wasn’t the point here, that wasn’t important in this moment. The vixen had come for a drink yet wasn’t exactly staying for the aged bourbon. “You say that as if I’m completely unaware of the good on you.” A light scoff was given as she yet again shook her head. Setting her own glass on the mantel of the fire place so that both hands could be used to turn him, get the man to face her. To look at her properly. “As if I don’t remember the man who tried so hard to court me, who chased me through fields and forests. Kissed me so passionately one might think him sinful yet could smile so sweetly the next.” She breathed as a thumb skimmed across the strong curve of his jaw. “We are different, Damon. Very much so. But while she wants the good in you, I’ve wanted it all.”
Rolling his eyes at her comment, Damon took in a deep breath. The good in him, what a useless conversation. It had gotten no where with Elena so why would it get anywhere with Katherine? He didn’t see it, any of it. He wasn’t a good person, he had accepted that. Why didn’t anyone else? Getting lost in his thoughts a moment, he had hardly realized Katherine had moved him so he was looking right at her. Scanning her face, Damon sighed as she brought up the past, brought up the person he was before. He seemed like a different person, he had hardly recognized. He couldn’t help though but to have the smallest side smile on his face remembering the memories. He was so happy then, so young, so naive. Tensing slightly as he felt her thumb against his jaw, Damon swore he warmed up slightly. How dare she still have this effect on him after everything that has happened, after he had finally settled down with someone who had truly loved him. “Why?” he asks softly before letting his gaze fall slightly. “Why would you want a bad person. All I do is screw things up.” he adds under his breath before swallowing hard.
A slender brow arches and she tilts her head to the side a bit. “I’m sorry, Damon. Is my being here annoying you? — Oh, wait.. Let me help you save your breath. I don’t care.” After what he’d put Jeremy through recently, he had some nerve seeming so aggravated with her presence and for asking about him. “I’d rather not fill you in on where he is. You might kidnap him.” Not to mention the fact she wasn’t even sure where he was since he seemed to be avoiding her calls and texts.
Hearing her comment about him kidnapping Jeremy, Damon shifted in his spot. It was a painful reminder of what he did when he went off the rails. Damn Katherine and her stupid tricks. But maybe she was right, he was a monster and Elena did deserve better. Feeling his face fall slightly, he shifted in his spot before forcing it to be neutral once again. “Bonnie…” he says with a sight. “You know my head wasn’t on straight when that happened. Elena..well Katherine…she…” he starts to explain before clearing his throat. “How is he?” he asks.
